The amphora shows as the main theme of the central band the depiction of several centaurs fighting with young men in order to kidnap their women, on one side there is instead Nike in front of an altar, and finally on the other side there is the abduction of Helen by Theseus and Pirithous. The neck of the artwork is decorated with olive branches overpainted in white. The twisted handles feature swan protomes.
A light patina also gives the work a secular effect as a tribute inspired by the original artifacts handed down by ancient craftsmen. This object was crafted with ancient techniques through the use of natural paints created manually from raw materials found in nature, which baked in oxygen reduction acquire their characteristic colors and tonalities. From clays to brushes, each process is the result of countless years of experimental archaeology and study in pursuit of perfection.
Unique contemporary brand new artwork made with ancient techniques.
The diameter of the lip of the Etruscan Amphora is 16 cm, the height is 50 cm, the base diameter is 16.5 cm, and the maximum width is 30 cm.
My name is Roberto Paolini, and I was born in Cerveteri, an ancient Etruscan city.
Thanks to the ancient testimonies left by the Etruscans in my city, I immediately became passionate about history. As a result, when I was 12, I was lucky enough to start attending the shop of an elderly craftsman from my town who passed on to me the passion for ancient ceramics.
Thus began a long journey, made up of studies and, above all, a lot of experimentation, with the immense desire to be able to create unique objects equal to those created anciently by Etruscan and Greek master ceramists. Thanks to the desire to always do better, after many years, I began to obtain excellent results. It was the starting point for countless collaborations with universities and many important museums around the world.
Each creation process requires incredible study. From clays to engobes, then moving on to brushes, and finally to firing, each step has a whole world to discover.
Being able to create objects of this magnitude, using exclusively raw materials that I personally find in nature, means that each vase is a continuation of this ancient art, which remained hidden for a long historical period.
Now, thanks to the passion for my roots, this art has returned to shine and continues to excite clients worldwide.
