Attic Black-Figure Dinos

This particular form of vase without handles was used for mixing wine and water.  The vase consists of two parts, an upper sphere-like part with a wide lip and then a column-like support where the sphere rests.  The long scenes full of characters and details enclosed in two seamless bands finally compose and complete this unique artwork.  While the upper band of the vase depicts fight scenes both between soldiers at war with each other and between wild animals, the band of the lower column illustrates a series of sailing warships above a second fight scene between soldiers.  All characters depicted wear armor and robes enriched with burgundy and white polychromes. A light patina also gives the work a secular effect as a tribute inspired by the original artifacts handed down by ancient craftsmen.  This object was crafted with ancient techniques through the use of natural paints created manually from raw materials found in nature, which baked in oxygen reduction acquire their characteristic colors and tonalities.  From clays to brushes, each process is the result of countless years of experimental archaeology and study in pursuit of perfection.
